Rooted in an early fascination with Renaissance painting and graphic novels, my work engages with representation through portraiture and the human figure. While these influences continue to inform my approach, my practice has evolved toward a more fluid and exploratory process, one that allows the image to emerge through layering, disruption, and intuitive mark making rather than strict adherence to reference.
In recent work, I use portraiture as a point of entry into something more psychological and less fixed, where faces become sites of tension, obscured, fragmented, or altered through gesture and color. Figures drawn from personal relationships and cultural icons are reinterpreted through this lens, reflecting an interest in the gap between how a person is seen and how they are experienced. Color and surface play an active role in shaping meaning, with expressive, non-naturalistic palettes pushing the image between clarity and abstraction.
Across the work, there is a recurring interest in the interior lives of others and how they intersect with my own. Portraiture becomes a way of navigating intimacy, absence, longing, and connection. Whether examining the lingering impact of a fractured relationship, the quiet strength of a friend, or the elusive presence of a public figure, each painting is an attempt to externalize something felt but not easily defined. Ultimately, my work is concerned with the act of searching, not for a definitive image, but for a deeper understanding of how we see, remember, and relate to one another.
